Product Management courses beyond certifications

Whether you’re just starting your journey or you’re a seasoned pro, there’s always something new to learn—and plenty of courses to help you do so. Courses that go beyond the basics of product management like CSPO or PSPO certifications.

I took a few hours of browsing LinkedIn, Reddit, Google and asking my peers.

I crafted this list of courses and ideas to help you decide on your next steps or to use this list as a manager coaching/managing other Product professionals.

Do you really need a (paid) Product Management course?

Let’s start with some honest advice from a Reddit user:

“Yes, don’t do courses. Take to the internet and watch YouTube, read tons, listen to podcasts. Just absorb product content as that will take you further than these courses.”

To a large extent this person is right.

There’s a wealth of free content online—blogs, podcasts, videos, and newsletters—that can teach you just as much (if not more) than many courses. But for some, structure and accountability are key to staying committed. And that’s where paid courses can come into play.

As they say: “If you pay, you pay attention.”

To me personally, investing time and money in courses is a commitment to your craft.

Product Management courses

If you’re willing to invest in your development, here are some of the most well-known, most often suggested options:

  1. Reforge
$2,000 USD grants you access to all Reforge programs for a year. Reforge’s community-based approach and focus on actionable insights make it a favorite among experienced PMs.

  2. SVPG Product Masterclass
A masterclass from the Silicon Valley Product Group is almost like a rite of passage. Rich with insights from industry legends like Marty Cagan, it’s perfect for those who want to understand how great products are built. This specific one is $2995 US Dollars and they also offer other courses.

  3. GoPractice!
A simulation-based approach to learning product analytics and growth, which is highly interactive and hands-on. This one is lesser known, but I see quite some mentions online.

  4. Product School
At $5,000 (even with a 2 for 1 deal), Product School’s courses are definitely on the pricier side. However, they provide a structured program for those looking to transition into PM roles.

  5. Roman Pichler’s Training
Roman’s courses are highly respected for focusing on product leadership and agile methodologies. Perfect for PMs looking to level up and definitely more within my desired price range (1300 pounds).

  6. Lenny’s Newsletter Recommendations
Lenny Rachitsky’s curated list is a goldmine for finding courses tailored to specific PM skill sets.

  7. Maven: Product Sense by Shreyas Doshi
Shreyas’ course focuses on building intuition for product decisions. I’m seriously considering this course, even though I realize it’s marketing powered content I’m still a fan of Shreyas.

  8. CPO Accelerator
Designed for senior product leaders aspiring to become Chief Product Officers, this program emphasizes leadership and strategy. Would love to follow it, but for now, the price if out of my league.

  9. Product Institute
With specialized courses like Metrics Overview, this is a great option for PMs looking to boost their data fluency—a skill often lacking in the field. I don’t mind paying $349 at all.

Free Product Management cources

Not ready to drop thousands of dollars? No problem. There are plenty of free (or low-cost) ways to sharpen your skills:

  1. Pendo Product Analytics: Free tools and webinars to help you understand user behavior and product performance.
  2. Udemy, Coursera, and Udacity: Affordable courses on everything from product management basics to advanced analytics.
  3. Google Generative AI Learning Path: A fantastic (and free!) resource to get up to speed on AI—a growing area of importance in product management.

Not learning at all, is not an option

So, should you invest in a PM course? It depends. If you’re disciplined and love exploring on your own, the internet offers endless free resources to help you grow. But if you need structure or want to learn directly from industry experts, a paid course might be the push you need. I would say: not learning at all, is not an option.

Happy learning!
